John Robert Nelson's Obituary
John Robert (Bob) Nelson died December 11, 2016, in Austin, TX, at the age of 94. He was born on March 12, 1922, in Lansing, MI to Albert and Lillian Bass Nelson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years, Jeanette Trafton Nelson. Bob was a World War II veteran (Army Air Force) and a graduate of the Oregon State University engineering program. He and Jeanette moved to Texas after they married to work in the oil business. He was a Legion of Honor member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and an active member of University Park United Methodist Church for 47 years before moving to Austin to be closer to the family. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands (Anne Nelson and Bob Boney of Austin and Barbara and Carl Rohlfs of San Antonio); four grandsons and their wives (John Boney and Emily Polak of Boston, MA; Will and Emily Boney of Boston, MA; Randy and Charity Rohlfs of Midland; and Robert and Meaghan Rohlfs of San Antonio) and 5 great-grandchildren with a sixth due in January. Graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Univerity Park United Methodist Church located at 4024 Caruth Blvd, Dallas, TX 75225.
