John Pittman's Obituary
Pittman, John C. of Red Oak, Texas, born December 18, 1944 in Wichita Falls, Texas and passed away peacefully in his home on October 3, 2011, surrounded by his wife and children. His father, Charles Truett Pittman, mother, Hannah Mary “Mollie” Turnbull Pittman and his sister Charlan Sue Pittman Led-better, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 42 years, Sharon Lyman Pittman and children John Scott Pittman and Amanda Pittman Rome and spouse Nolan Rome, and 4 grandchildren, John Truett Pittman, Thomas Braden Pittman, Scott Kale Pittman and Chauncey Reid Rome. His sisters Mary Ann Pittman Shutes and Ruth Pittman Hoepfner as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive John. John spent his childhood in Wichita Falls graduating from Ryder High School, and then attending Midwestern State University prior to graduating from East Texas State University with a BA degree in Business Administration in 1968. John was a member of Delta Sigma Phi, business fraternity at ETSU. After college John went to work for Universal Plumbing Supply as their Purchasing Agent in Mesquite, TX from 1969 till 1981. In 1981, John went into business for himself, opening P&G Plumbing Supply in Garland, P&G Plumbing Supply South in Dallas in 1984, and Pittman Plumbing Supply in Carrollton with his son, Scott in 1998. He was a member of WDA – Wholesale Distributors Association for 32 years and a member of the Omni Buying Group. He was awarded the WDA Purchasing Agent of the Year from 1971-1981 and was instrumental in founding the Dallas chapter of NACM – National Association of Credit Management for the plumbing supply industry. John was well known and respected throughout the wholesale plumbing supply industry. John and Sharon had a love of thoroughbred horse racing and were owners and breeders for over a 20-year span. Their horses raced at Oak Lawn Park, Louisiana Downs, Delta Downs, Mountaineer Park in West Virginia and Lone Star Park. John played and managed “The Pitts” USSSA softball team from 1977-1996. John enjoyed fishing and took annual fishing trips to in-land Mexico with his friends of many years. John also hunted in May, TX for over 35 years and enjoyed playing cards. John was a successful businessman, sportsman and wonderful provider for his family; he was loved and will be missed. His passions were softball, fishing, snow skiing, hunting and horse racing and made many wonderful friends along the way. In 2000, John was able to fulfill his lifetime dream by purchasing a 55 acre horse ranch and tending to his thoroughbreds. He was also an avid dog lover and supporter of the SPCA.
