John Herman Powell's Obituary
John Herman Powell began his next adventure on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born April 14, 1929 to Herman W. and Ella Mae Easterwood Powell of Durant, Okla.. John married Shirleen Jones on Nov. 15, 1952 in Ogden, Utah. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955 and retired from Texas Instruments in 1990 after 26 years. He loved fishing, hunting, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Surviving are his wife, Shirleen Powell; son, Mark J. Powell and his wife, Cathy of Richardson; grandchildren, Matthew Powell and fiancee, Penny Deininger, Bradley J. Powell and Ashley E. Powell of Richardson; mother of the grandchildren, Mary S. Powell of Garland. Also surviving are three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Family visitation will be 3 -4 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home, 631 W. Woodard St. in Denison. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas with Pastor Victor Killman officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Powell, Bradley Powell, Gene Sims, Ricky Talkington, Jeremiah Horn, Richard Horn Jr. and Rick Delekta. The Plano-Richardson Elk’s Lodge #2485 will also perform a memorial service with military honors presented by Sheppard Air Force Base Honor Guard from Wichita Falls.
