John Lester Quigley Jr.'s Obituary
Of Plano, TX, John passed away peacefully on July 9, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano; he was 73. John was born in Washington, D.C., May 20, 1936 and lived in many states, moving to Texas his senior year where he graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas after a stellar academic & football career; the latter earning him a scholarship to Texas A&M University. After graduating from A&M as a distinguished ROTC cadet, John served in the U. S. Army (1LT, Armor) from 1959-61. After four years as Assistant Director of Personnel of Morton Foods, Inc., he joined Dr Pepper Co. in 1967 as Director of Personnel and Training. He served the company 28 years as a manager/senior executive of Dr Pepper/Seven-Up Companies, Inc., retiring in 1996; his final post was Sr. VP-Administration, responsible for purchasing, human resources, travel services, training, facilities, office services, security and transportation. John was active in many professional societies, including past chairman of ASPA (American Society for Personnel Administration) and American Society for Training and Development. He also served on the boards for the Dallas Child Guidance Center, the Personnel Accreditation Institute, ASPA Foundation (SHRM) and CLEAR (Council on Legislation, Education and Research) and Texas Central Bank. He was a distinguished visiting executive at Texas A&M, serving on the HR Advisory Board in the school’s College of Business. John’s other civic endeavors included board service for Rotary Club of Dallas (a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International), Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Dallas, I Have A Dream Foundation of Dallas, St. Philips School and Community Center of Dallas and Junior Achievement, and a member of advisory council for the new master’s degree program for the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management. Most recently, he was a career counselor at St. Andrew UMC. In his spare time, John was a member of Seekers Sunday School Class at St. Andrew and prior member of the Jubilee Class of Custer Road UMC, Plano. John was a lifelong student of military history and golfed until recent years, but most of all, he relished life with Jacki, his loving wife of 33 years. In addition to Jacki, John is survived by his children, Shannon Lynn and husband Rick South (Plano), Debby and husband Jim Greenhaw (McKinney, TX) and Ron Quigley (Carrollton, TX); grandchildren, Tyler, Jackson, Shyanne, and James Greenhaw; brothers Mike Quigley and companion Cullene Vaughn (San Antonio, TX) and Tim Quigley (West Palm Beach, FL); sister-in-law, Mary and Dennis Oliver (Granbury) and sons Dennis, Jr. and Daniel Oliver. John was preceded in death by his father and mother John and Helen Quigley of West Palm Beach, FL. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14th at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 West Parkway, Plano, TX, officiated by Dr. James A. Gwaltney. Visitation will be held Monday at Restland Memorial, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
