John Savage's Obituary
SAVAGE, JOHN ALEXANDER Passed away peacefully June 25th at age 84 following an extended illness. Known for his quick wit, droll sense of humor, and outgoing personality, he will be missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, educator and Christian. John remained a member of the Emeritus Faculty at SMU following his retirement after a 42 year career as Professor of Electrical Engineering, he was twice awarded the Outstanding Professor Award and remained active in SMU circles until his death. John was a lifelong resident of Dallas, member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and the 2×2 Class, past President of the Technical Club of Dallas, past President of Town North Lions Club, Life Member and past President of the Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation, recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award of Lions international, member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and longtime member of Lakewood Country Club. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, SMU, and the University of Texas. John retired from the US Navy as a LtCDR and served honorably in WWII and Korea. John is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 59 years; son and wife John and Anna Savage of Seattle and their children Justin, Jessica and Mark; son and wife Bill and Jeri Savage and their children Blake and Grant; daughter and husband Debbie and Jon Alspaw and their children Alyssa and Cameron. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and granddaughter Amelia.
