Mr. John Netzer Shuffler's Obituary
John Netzer Shuffler, husband of Maxine Mae Jackson Shuffler, born on January 28th 1914 in Plano, Texas to Augustus Filmore and Mattie Martha Shuffler. John graduated from Plano High School in 1934. He then attended Texas A&M long enough to become a lifetime “Aggie;” he then graduated in petroleum engineering from Tulsa University. John and Maxine were married at the little church around the corner in New York City on June 4, 1941. John and Maxine were married for sixty-four years. He served as an officer in the U.S. navy during WWII and worked for Texaco for 34 years. John enjoyed playing bridge, 42, and playing “king on the corner” with his granddaughters. He was an enthusiastic fan of westerns, both written and filmed. His two favorite kinds of pie were hot and cold and his favorite kind of ice cream was a-la-mode. John was a resident of Richardson for 50 years. He was a great believer in hard work, honesty and family loyalty. He is survived by daughter, Sloan Shuffler of Palestine; son, John Shuffler, Jr. of Richardson; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Shuffler; son-in-law, Clifton New; granddaughters, Susanna Shuffler, Lisa Bowman, Kathryn New; grandson, Kenneth Shuffler; great granddaughter, Maya Gawande; brother, Billy Shuffler of Nevada; sister, Inez Cornwell of Tulsa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Maxine Mae Shuffler; father, “Gus” Shuffler; mother, Mattie Shuffler; brothers, Hal, Homer, and Harry; sisters, Gladys, Verna, Leta, and Bonnie.
