John Millard Skelton, Jr's Obituary
Jack (John Millard) Skelton of Mesquite, Texas, died Friday, April 12. He was born July 28, 1937, in Meridian, Mississippi, to John Millard Skelton, Sr., and Louise Taylor Skelton. He attended Mississippi State University before joining the Navy and serving on the USS Forrestal in Attack Squadron Eighty-Three.Jack spent a lifelong career in the corrugated box industry, moving from Meridian to Kansas City, to Cincinnati, back to Meridian, before finally retiring from Englander DZing Pak in Dallas.Jack was a faithful member of New Covenant United Methodist Church in Sunnyvale. As an avid baseball fan, he followed the teams of his grandsons and the Texas Rangers. He loved playing golf at the Dallas Athletic Club, where he was a member for many years, and hunting on the Ice Ranch in Saint Jo, Texas.He is survived by his wife of 57 years Kathleen, daughter Julia Harryman (Jim) of Sunnyvale, and son John M. Skelton III, of Dallas. He is survived by grandsons Reece Harryman and Brett Harryman, who lovingly knew him as “Big Dad.” He is also survived by brothers Jere Skelton (Faye), Meridian; Danny Skelton (Diane), Gulf Breeze, Florida; and sisters Nola Blackwell, The Colony, and Joy McClure, Seattle, Washington, along with many wonderful nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.The family requests that visiting hours for John Skelton, Jr. be observed on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 9:00 AM at DFW National Cemetery.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
