John was born March 25, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota to his parents Thomas & Charlotte Smith. He was the second youngest of five siblings. He joined the Air Force the moment he was allowed to enlist. He worked his way up to be one of the few high ranking officers as Chief Warrant Officer 4. While he was serving his country, he met his wife Marcella “Marcy” Anastasia Vaughan. They were married on January 21, 1956. They had a daughter, Barbara Evelyn Smith and adopted a son, John Smith II.

After he retired he moved his family to Garland, TX where they settled their lifelong roots.
Jack and Marcy were founding members of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Mesquite, TX. He stayed as an active member until Covid. He took his last breath at the age of 94 years old, with his eldest granddaughter by his side on August 21, 2022 at 8:11PM. He will be remembered for his acts of serving as a man who gave back to his Country and Community. He was truly the most caring, a father figure to many, and greatest grandfather anyone could have asked for.
