John Grady Twyman's Obituary
TWYMAN, JOHN GRADY a priest, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in Plano. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Episcopal Cathedral, 1300 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leonard Kamungu Theological College in Malawi, Africa, to help provide a seminary education to all whom God calls to serve Him. Donations may be directed to the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth and marked for Fr.Twyman’s memorial fund. Fr. Twyman was born in Houston on Nov. 12, 1944, to Henry and Bonnie Mae Twyman. He married the former Lauren ‘Lollie’ Lallier in 1966. He received the B.A. degree from the University of North Texas in 1969 and the M. Div. from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in 1978. Fr. Twyman was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas on May 24, 1979. He served as curate and assistant at St. John’s Church in Dallas before being called as Rector of St. Paul’s Church in Gainesville in 1986. Nine years later he was called as Rector of St. John’s Church in Fort Worth, where he served till 1998. That year he joined the staff of St. Vincent’s Cathedral, where he served as Interim Dean and assistant priest until 2002. More recently he served at St. Joseph’s Church in Grand Prairie and again at St.John’s in Dallas. At the time of his death he was serving as a retired member of the clergy at Christ Church in Plano. As a priest he was gifted in pastoral care and touched the lives of many throughout the Episcopal Dioceses of Forth Worth and Dallas. In addition to his parochial duties, Fr. Twyman held positions of leadership on the diocesan Standing Committee and Constitution and Canons Committee, among others. He served as a deputy to two General Conventions of the Episcopal Church. Fr. Twyman was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Lollie Twyman, his beloved wife of 41 years; their four children:Matthew, Daphne, Summerlynn, and Sarah-Elizabeth; five grandchildren:Grady, Lane, Caroline, Carson, and Keaton; a sister, Suzan Twyman Keetch; and a brother, William E. Twyman.
