John Roger Ulteig's Obituary
John Roger Ulteig was born on November 6, 1932 to Esther (Moe) and Melvin Ulteig. John died June 15, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. John graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and later received a Master’s in Geology. He worked in Colombia, South America for several years, prior to marrying Irene Woitzel on August 29, 1959. They lived in Denver, Columbus, OH and Shreveport while John worked for Skelly Oil. He and his wife owned and operated Town Creek Gardens at Abrams and Royal for several years and had a lifelong love of gardening. John also worked at IBM before retiring. John and Irene loved to travel and had an RV to travel the US selling “Gone to the Dawgs” hats and bandanas. They visited Europe several times and met previously unknown cousins in Sweden and visited the Ulteig farm area in Norway. John had excellent computer skills – he traced his family tree over 400 years and wrote a computer program for his son’s veterinary hospital. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Irene (Woitzel). He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Eric Ulteig of Austin and Gregor (Bethany) Ulteig of Plano, his grandsons, Keegan and Camden, and his brother, J.T. Ulteig of Lake Sally, MN, as well as his sisters-in-law, Helen (John) Miller and Betty (Burt) Maxwell. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Silverado Plano Memory Care in Plano and Hospice, especially Tony, Daisy and Jan. A family graveside service is being planned. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road.
