John Richard Vandevoort's Obituary
John Richard Vandevoort, Sr. (Jack) Born in Moline, Il. August 2, 1928 Died June 27, 2009 at home. As a young man, after Jr. High School, He earned a four year scholarship to St. Bede Academy in Peru, Il. Graduating in 1946 he entered college in Davenport, Iowa. An airforce cadet he earned his wings in Enid, Ok. He was a 2nd Lt. Test pilot at Kelly Airforce Base, San Antonio, TX. He was a fighter pilot in the Korean War flying 55 missions, and received a Bronze Star and Distinguish Flying Cross. He attended SMU Law School and became an attorney in 1957. He worked for a New York law firm for 3 yrs, then American Airlines 2 yrs. In 1962 he came to Texas Instruments, Inc. as the third attorney hired, travelling the world and was employed with them 24 yrs. He retired from the FDIC as a federal attorney in 2007. Survived By: Brother Jerry and wife Joan Vandevoort of Arizona, Wife: Eva Peterson Vandevoort, sons: John R. Vandevoort Jr. and his wife Michelle, Tony E. Vandevoort and his wife Amissa, Mike Heald and wife Linda, Steve Heald, daughters: Karen Vandevoort Vannatta, Susan Heald Griffith. Grandchildren: Colton Vandevoort, Amber Vandevoort, Ashley John, Sarah Griffith, Lance Corporal Persons Bryant Griffith IV, Eva Griffith. Great-grandchildren: Samuel John and Elizabeth Balder, also several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Mon. June 29th from 6pm-8pm @ Restland Funeral Home 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, Tx Services will be held @ 10:00am June 30th, Wildwood Chapel Restland, 13005 Greenville Ave Dallas. There will also be a Taps/flag ceremony at the Whispering Waters mausoleum after services
