John Averett Waller Jr.'s Obituary
Waller, John Averett, Jr. ~ Born September 18, 1919, in Seneca, New Mexico, to John Averett Waller, Sr. and Vivian Simpson Waller, he departed this life on February 23, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. He attended grammar school in Tillman County, Oklahoma, and high school in Tulia, Swisher County, Texas Panhandle, where he graduated in 1937. He graduated from Trinity University in 1941 with a B.S. in math, after which he taught math and coached boy’s sports teams in Dawson, Texas, for a year. He then went to work for Geotech, a geophysical services company, until 1948 when he joined Sun Oil Company as a geophysicist. He retired from Sun in 1982, during which time from 1955 to 1960 he was Sun’s geophysical representative in the Latin American countries. John Averett was a member and past President of the Dallas Geophysical Society and a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne Garrett Waller; two sons, John Averett (Jay) Waller, III and Garrett Lane Waller; a brother, J.B. (Slick) Waller; a sister, Doris Jennings; and his parents. John leaves surviving his second wife, Shirley; a son, Kent Allen Waller and wife Lynda; and a daughter, Mandy Kay Waller. Also surviving is a sister, Gloria Schisler and husband Gale; four grandchildren, John IV, Jill, Miranda and Erica; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Restland Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to a charity of your choice or to the Trinity University Football program, One Trinity Place, San Antonio, TX 78212.
