Johnny Tuminello's Obituary
-In Loving Memory of a father, Grandfather, and an American hero… Johnny Tuminello was born on August 1st, 1924 to John and Josephine Tuminello in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was the youngest of six siblings. Johnny passed away on November 1st in the home that he built surrounded by his loving family.Johnny was preceded in death by his wife Jennie Lou Tuminello; siblings Vincent Tuminello, Anthony Tuminello, Dominic Tuminello, Rosalie Clark, and Louise Todd. He is survived by his children John, Joel, and Julie Tuminello, their spouses Latrell and Tammy, and his cherished grandchildren Jenna, Erica, Peyton, and Anthony.Johnny left Clarksdale High school to answer the call to service in 1941. He followed the lead of his brothers and joined the army. He served the U.S. Army in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after achieving the rank of private first class of the 392nd division as an Anti-aircraft specialist.After leaving the army Johnny went back to Clarksdale and graduated high school. He then moved to Dallas, Texas with his brothers to pursue a career in owning and operating a string of restaurants. It was in Dallas where Johnny met his beloved wife Jennie Lou Henderson who he married on January 12th, 1950. They enjoyed a wonderful thirty-four-year marriage that produced three beautiful children.Johnny loved his grandchildren more than anything. He enjoyed singing and dancing with them. He would read them bedtime stories and scare them with tales of king kong monkey coming to get them. However, as the true Italian man that he was, Johnny’s true passion was cooking meals for the entire family to enjoy. The family time spent around the stove and at the dining table enjoying one of Johnny’s masterpieces and stories of the past where among the most special moments of his life.Johnny’s other hobbies included a love for the outdoors. Johnny hunted regularly and took a special love of dove hunting. Later in his life Johnny would raise doves and even feed the squirrels in his back yard from his own hand. After his retirement in 1988 he would take interest in his children’s pursuits. He helped his daughter Julie run a floral and decorating business in the 80’s. He passed down his skills in the kitchen to his son John. Finally, he blessed his son Joel with wisdom that can only be gained by spending 95 years on this earth.Johnny was devout in his Christian faith as he prayed and sang hymns to honor Christ daily. He will be missed deeply by his loving family who will take solace in that Johnny is now with Jennie in heaven watching over his loved ones as he continues to guide the Tuminello family as it’s patriarch.
