Johnny Villanueva's Obituary
Johnny Villanueva, 89, of Plano, Texas passed away on January 13, 2018 in Plano, Texas with his family by his bedside. He was born on October 20, 1928 to Jesse Villanueva and Isabell Escobedo in Webster, Texas.He married the love of his life Hazel Dugas on December 22, 1952 in Houston, Texas. He started boxing at age 16 and had 30 wins with three losses at the height of his career. He was a top contender in the Featherweight Division. Following his boxing career, he started working for the Maritime Association, ILA local 24, for 30 plus years in Houston, Texas.He served in the United States Army National Guard and helped defend our country in the Korean War. His hobbies included whittling wood, maintaining a beautiful yard and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by Johnny Villanueva, Yvonne Zaccanelli, and Desiree Villanueva. He had six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation for Johnny will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 6-8 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, with a rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral mass will be on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Rita’s Catholic Church on Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas.
