Jonathan Thomas May's Obituary
MAY, JONATHAN THOMAS passed away on November 8, 2012. Jonathan was born in Morehead City, NC on August 8, 1969. He was truly a Renaissance Man. During his life-time, he traveled widely in the Northern Hemisphere; was especially well-read in both fiction and non-fiction from the time he first read The Hobbit in the third grade; enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean; hiking in the mountains and the tropics; cycling, and fishing; and following his adolescent medieval interest, learned to play a lute. Jonathan enjoyed cooking exotic meals and loved to grow flowers, vegetables, and herbs on his balcony. Jonathan received his formal education beginning on St. Simons Island, GA, and then to Cornwall-on-the- Hudson, NY, and Rockwall and Dallas, TX. The last school he attended was SMU following the completion of two years at Richland College where he was a business major. During Jonathan’s adult years, he earned his living in the restaurant industry. In high school, he began as a bar-back at sixteen and continued to work at various restaurants as a waiter and a manager until his death. Jonathan is survived by his mother, Betty Sue May Sidener and husband, Scott of Garland; his father, Mallory S. May, III and wife, Leigh E. DeMasi of Dallas; an older brother, William Sanford May and wife, Kelly May of Garland, and their three children Lauren, Apsley, and Truman; younger sister, Erica May Easley and husband, Justin Easley of Houston; and a younger brother, Patrick May of Lubbock. Jonathan had a good heart. When working at restaurants, he provided food to the homeless and he often volunteered to help out at facilities that provided for the less fortunate. He also loved animals. He especially loved Andy, his mother’s dog. He was considerate of many and kind to all. There will be a memorial service held at the Big Springs Baptist Church, 6538 North Jupiter Road Garland, Texas 75044 at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jonathan’s name to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden at dallasaboretum.org. He enjoyed working in its food service.
