Joree " Joe" Anderson's Obituary
Beloved father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather Joree “Joe” Anderson passed away December 31, 2017.Joe’s infectious smile and quick wit brought laughter to everyone who crossed his path. Many times he brought a smile and comfort to those who came to support him. He was a true example of a Christian servant, asking nothing for himself but smiles and laughter.Born September 4, 1922 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Joe was the son of Roy and Rose Lou Anderson. His father was a Methodist minister, and Joe’s childhood was spent in many different North Texas towns.He spent his high school years in Sanger, Texas, where he met Cynthia, his wife to be. The marriage that followed lasted 75 years, a true inspiration to everyone who knew them.Soon after marriage, Joe left for service in the Army Air Corps. He later earned a bachelor’s degree and opened Anderson’s Variety Store in Duck Creek Center with cousin Luther Nicholson. The store closed following a flood, and Joe went to work at Nicholson’s Vairiety Store in downtown Garland, Texas. In 1963 he opened a second Nicholson’s Variety Store in Garland’s Walnut Village, where he worked until retirement.After retirement, Joe worked several years at the Garland Independent School District (GISD) Instructional Support Center.He was a member of the Garland Chamber of Commerce, a member and president of the Noon Lion’s Club, and for more than 70 years a member of the First United Methodist Church Garland and the John Markley Sunday School Class.Joe is survived by daughter Carla Jane Allman and her husband Danny Allman of Garland; grandchildren Brad Allman and his wife Melissa Allman of Wylie, Texas, and allison Presser and her husband Elliot Presser of Murphy, Texas; and great-granddaughter Harper Allman.Funeral service will be January 6, at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church Garland.
