Dr. Jose R. Zamorano, Jr.'s Obituary
Dr. Jose R. Zamorano, Jr. also known to his family, friends, and colleagues as “Pepe” or “Dr. Z”, passed away on June 12, 2016. He was born on September 21, 1934 in Havana, Cuba. After attending and graduating from LaSalle School in Havana, Cuba in 1951, he graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Havana in 1960. Pepe left Cuba in 1961 due to Castro communist regime with his wife, Gladys, and their two oldest children for the freedom offered by the United States. They later had two more children, born in Dallas. Pepe moved to Dallas in 1964 and started his residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor University Medical Center. In 1968, immediately after the completion of his residency, he started a successful private practice at Baylor Hospital which remained open until 2015. Many facets of life motivated him, but medicine and sports were his passion. After being named the team Doctor for Southern Methodist University, he was asked to be the internist for the Dallas Cowboys in 1972 and in 1980, he was asked by the Dallas Mavericks to join their medical staff. After retiring from the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, Pepe remained active with the Dallas Mavericks until earlier this year. His life and career touched many lives both professionally and personally. He is preceded in death by his parents, Architect, Jose Raul Zamorano, Sr. and his wife, Silvia Fuentevilla. He is survived by Gladys, his loving and dedicated wife of 61 years, his children: Jose & Martha Zamorano, Sylvia & Fernando Gonzalez, Alex and Amy Zamorano, Gladys and Mike McVey, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. There will be a viewing held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 9:00 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Road, Dallas, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
