Joseph Dowling's Obituary
A 22 year Air Force veteran and retired American Heart Association employee of 25 years followed by 15 years as consultant died of heart failure on October 30th surrounded by family at his home in Richardson, Texas. He was 80 years old. Joe had a love for life and enjoyed people tremen-dously. He was an avid sports and drum and bugle corps enthusiast and loved to travel. Joe was a founding member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson and loved singing in the choir. He had a reputation for motivating American Heart volunteers across the USA and moved all over the world while in the Air Force. Joseph was born in Melrose, MA to Joseph A. and Rose V. Dowling and was brother to Mary Ellen. He received his education at St. Mary’s School and Melrose High School in Melrose, MA. He attended the NY Military Academy before joining the Army Air Corps and retired from the Air Force in 1968 after 22 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and loved his country. Joe was a devoted husband to his wife Edith Joyce for almost 59 years. He was a loving father to Michael S. Dowling and wife Laurie of Billerica, MA, Sr. Patricia A. Dowling of Baltimore, MD, Judith D. M. Poirier and husband Bruce of Hopkinton, NH, MSG Joseph P. Dowling of Newport News, VA, Rosemary A. Driscoll and husband William of Parker, CO and Stephen P. Dowling of Richardson, TX. He will be missed by his 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8PM Monday November 3, 2008 at Restland Memorial Chapel, with Rosary at 6PM. Mass of Resurrection will be at 10AM Tuesday November 4, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 600 S. Jupiter Rd, Richardson. His memorial party will follow directly after the Mass. Come ready to celebrate Joe’s life who asked that we have a big party in remembrance. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rafiki Foundation Inc, PO Box 1988, Eustis FL 32727.
