Joseph Gordon's Obituary
Joseph William Gordon, 88, was born to parents Robert S. Gordon and Nell Pridgen Gordon on March 24, 1929 in Jackson, Mississippi. He passed away on March 2, 2018 in Mesquite, Texas. Joseph was a loving and sensitive uncle and helped family in their times of need. He was a very generous man with a big heart with many friends. Joseph was raised Methodist.He graduated Forest Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi, and graduated in 1948. Joseph then joined the United States Navy from October, 1948 to October , 1952, during the Korean War. He then went to Southern Methodist University on the GI bill, and graduated in less than 4 years with a BA, majored in Art.Joseph was the youngest of 3 brothers, by 15 minutes, brothers, Edward S. Gordon (deceased) and twin brother Joel Gordon.He worked in the commercial advertising field as an art director and production manager, and later in sales. Joseph worked in this field and did not retire until age 70, to fish, boating, and working in his yard. He was instrumental in improving the lives of some young men in the court system, opening his home as a temporary residence as requested by a friend who was a judge.Joseph was artistically gifted from a young age. As a child, he was in the newspaper in Jackson showing photos of him with his winning artwork of bluebonnets.He lived his life to the fullest. Joe loved his pets, cooking, and dining out with friends. He also enjoyed reading and watching TV, he especially liked movies from the golden era, the History Channel, and Military Channels.The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mr. Gordon will follow at 12:30 PM on Thursday, March 8 in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243.
