Joseph Martin Graves' Obituary
Joseph Martin Graves, 89, of Plano, Texas died June 26, 2017 in Plano, Texas, He was born June 20, 1928 to Zelma Joseph Graves and Vera Elizabeth Spivey in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Marry Beth Sutton on October 4, 1983 in South Padre Island, Texas. He was a business owner for most of his working years. After his military service, he chose to enter the electrical business. He went to work as an apprentice for Tom Cuff Electric, Waco, Texas and worked his way up to Master Electrician. From 1958 to 1968 he owned a successful company known as Triangle Electric, Waco, Texas. From 1969 to 1971, he went to work in sales for American Sentry Systems, Waco, Texas. In less than a year he was asked to take over the Dallas office. From 1972 to 1977, he owned and operated American Alarm and Signal, Dallas, Texas. From 1978 to present he owned SAS Security Alarm Service Company, Inc., located in Plano, Texas. From 1990 to 1999, he owned a successful second business, Alarm Central Monitoring, Inc. SAS will continue to carry on his legacy under the guidance of his son, Marty Graves, and wife, Marry Graves. He was a member of the IBEW Local Union 72 American Navion Society, Ducks Unlimited. He entered military service September11, 1944 and assigned to the Army Infantry Pacific Theater, 40th Division, 108th Regimental Combat Team, 1st Battalion, Company C, Southern Philippine Campaign as 1st Scout. He was seriously wounded in action in Leyte, Philippines on April 11, 1945. As a result of his injuries, he was Honorably Discharged January 2, 1946. January 3, 1946 he re-enlisted for 3 more years. Was assigned to the Caribbean Defense Command in Panama Canal Zone where he completed his Army Service and was Honorably Discharged on December 1, 1948. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and many other decorations/commendations. He is survived by his wife, Marry Graves, of Plano, Texas; son, Joseph Martin (Marty) Graves, III and wife, Debbie of Rockwall, Texas; grandson, Wesley Martin Graves and wife, Kimberly of Rockwall, Texas; their sons, Christian House, Lucas Martin Graves and Cameron Wesley Graves of Rockwall, Texas; grandson, Bryan Joseph Graves and wife, Lauryn of Rockwall, Texas; their sons, Joseph Wayne Graves and Barrett Martin Graves of Rockwall, Texas. son, James Leslie Graves and wife, Bonnie of Crofton, Maryland; granddaughter, Nichole Velez and husband, Ralph Velez, Jr of Crofton, Maryland; their son, Cruz Angel Velez of Crofton, Maryland; grandson, Bryan Gutin of Crofton, Maryland; granddaughter, Amanda Day and husband, Greg Day of Breckenridge, Colorado and 20 extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Zelma Joseph Graves; mother, Vera Elizabeth Spivey; sister, Janice Marrie Woliung. Joe is getting his lifelong wish. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Restland Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
