Joseph J. Guise Jr.'s Obituary
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away with his family sitting vigil on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Born October 13, 1925 in New Orleans, LA. He moved to Houston, TX in 1944 where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Alice McAfee who preceded him in death by 2 years and 3 days. Married for 67 years, he missed her every day that he remained behind. The consummate Professional, upon his retirement in 1992, he had some 40+ years of public service in the fund raising arena, completing 30 years as Chief Professional Officer of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Inc. He was then appointed to the Director of the Planned Giving & Endowment Program. And later Vice Chairman of the Board until March 29, 1995. On that day he received the first “Lifetime Achievement Awarded for 35 years of service to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. He attended the University of Houston, the School of Administration and Community Organization at Ohio State University and Harvard School of Business Administration. A Conferee for the Goals for Dallas Program in 1966 and later a member of the Goals for Dallas Finance Committee and Task Force. Recognized as “Man of the Year” by the Dallas Times Herald in 1969, “Outstanding Professional of the Year” in 1978 (Dallas) and “Outstand Fund Raising Executive” in the Nation in 1982. Survived by daughter, Carolyn Guise Osborne of Dallas, TX ,Jodee Guise Fritz and her husband Wesley of Rockwall,TX.; grandchildren Britton Beisenherz and wife Amy of Austin, TX, Elizabeth Bazemore Adams and her husband Lee of Irving, TX, Amanda Fritz Lindop and her husband Dustin of Rockwall, TX. and Regan Beisenherz Rouse and her husband Drew of Denver, CO. Great-grandchildren, Finn and Mona Beisenherz, Caleb Adams and Hunter Lindop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Guise, daughter Marilyn Guise Beisenherz and grandson Bradley Bazemore. A man comes from another time. An avid hunter but with a gentle dignity deep within. He will be missed for the devotion he showed on his “girls” and his stern guidance that none of us who knew him will ever forget. Funeral services to be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
