Joseph Harris' Obituary
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008. He was born on December 21, 1922 in Rison, AR to George and Eunice Harris. Joe was a decorated veteran of the Army Air Force and served bravely in New Guinea during World War II. In 1945 he and his bride, Sybil, moved to Dallas where he worked for Blanks Engraving Company until his retirement in 1985. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sybil, and four children: daughter Barbara Cole and husband Jim of Dallas, grandson Andy Cole and wife Abby, granddaughter Katy Bove and husband Jon-Claude and great granddaughter Mia; son Randy and wife Sandra of Arlington Heights, IL, step grandchildren, Jennifer Grzelak and husband Joe, step great grandsons Max and Ryan, step grandson Douglas Hoppe, step great granddaughter Koula; son Mark and wife Maureen of Spring, TX, grandson Colin; and daughter Carol Joyce and husband Mark of Southlake, TX, grandsons Craig and Brad. Other survivors include brothers: George, Paul and Bruce, as well as many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother James and sister Margaret. Joe will be remembered fondly as a man of dedication to his faith, his family, and his friends. He found great joy in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, boating, golfing and gardening. Joe enjoyed traveling and made many wonderful trips in the U.S., Mexico, and the U.K. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rowlett and dedicated his life to Christian love and service. Services will be held Monday, February 25 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland. Visitation is Sunday, February 24 from 4 ‘ 6:00 p.m. at Restland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe’s memory to the charity of choice.
