Mr. Joseph "Joe" George Turek's Obituary
Joseph “Joe” George Turek was born on May 31, 1939, to Joseph August Turek and Anna Marie Bohovetsky in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He peacefully passed on April 19, 2024, at the age of 84, in his home in Rowlett, Texas.
Joe was the youngest of seven children and spent the majority of his childhood in Chester, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1957 from Saint James Catholic High School and continued strongly in his faith.
In December of 1959, Joe entered the United State Navy in San Bernardino, California. This decision would forever change the course of his life. While on shore leave, Joe explored the small city of Palma Majorca, Spain . There he found the love of his life - a British girl on holiday with her family. They wrote to each other for a few months and Joe proposed. They were married on May 11, 1965 in London, England. They remained happily married for the next 58 years.
Eager to start a family and in order to be more present, Joe honorably discharged from the Navy and served in the United States Air Force from April 1966 to December of 1979. After approximately 2 decades, he would retire from the military in Plattsburgh, New York.
In 1980, Joe and his family moved to Texas and made it their home. He continued to work for the government at the United States Postal Service for the next 20 years until his retirement. He prided himself on being a good provider, and never let his family go without. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father.
Joe enjoyed watching football and baseball and would live long enough to watch his favorite teams; The Philidelphia Eagles win their first Super Bowl and the Texas Rangers win the World Series. However, there were few things he loved more than music. He sang in his school talent shows, performed hymns with his church’s choir, and was not afraid to belt out “Great Balls of Fire” on karaoke. Even on his worst days, you could convince him to whistle a patriotic tune.
Joe and Susan were active members of their community. They attended services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and were the founding members of The Senior Citizens of Rowlett (SCOR) where they made lifelong friendships.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Marie; brothers, Gus, Jim, Dick, and Ray; sisters, Monica and Ann Marie; daughter, Tina; and granddaughter, Darienne. He is survived by the love of his life, "Sue”; daughter, Kim Spurlock and husband, Bob; son, Joseph Turek and wife, Susan; and daughter, Suzanne Vinson; grandchildren, Hailey Cooknick and husband, Mike; Savannah Spurlock, Madeline Turek, Trenton Turek, Rebecca Spurlock, Emery Vinson, and Shannon Sensi and husband, Andy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family wishes to express their deepest regards for the staff at Enhabit Hospice Care, whose guidance and support helped them through the past year.
