Joseph J Koo's Obituary
Joseph Koo, born on January 12, 1935, in Weihaiwei, located in the Shandong province of China, passed away on September 10, 2024, at the age of 89. Upon the death of his father, Joe left school at a young age to take care of his mother and 4 siblings. Through grit and determination, he became a successful business owner in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, he met and married Winnie (Ai Feng) where they owned an apparel beading company. Together they moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil before immigrating to Texas in 1969. At that time Joe worked for Gibson’s as an importer. Then he worked as a group travel agent. He loved telling stories of his sales deals and travels. Joseph and Winnie made their home in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1980 where they owned a local restaurant for over 25 years. Together they raised three daughters, Katherine, Alice and Alicia. After retirement and never one to sit still, Joseph spent his time earning his realtor’s license, teaching himself how to use the computer to day trade in his 60s and finding odd jobs to keep himself busy. He also rejoined the church and has been a faithful Christian. Joe’s greatest pride was his grandchildren who knew him as Yeye. He was at his happiest when spending time with them and watching them grow.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Winnie, sister Mrs. J.L Chik, and son Ching Yeung. Joe is survived by his brothers Thomas Kuk (Stella) and David Ku, sister Cho Ling Koo; daughters Katherine Metcalfe (Tom), Alice Jones, Alicia Koo (Jarrod Fowler); eight grandchildren, Jason Metcalfe (Jenny), Kelly Ann Metcalfe (Eli Miller), Emily Jones, Jack Jones, Jamie Jones, Olivia Jones, Sophia Fowler, and Sydney Fowler; two great grandchildren, Josephine Metcalfe and Leo Metcalfe as well as numerous extended family members. Joe will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
