Joseph Felix O'Neill's Obituary
Joseph F. O’Neill of Dallas, Texas, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2015, at the age of 100. He was born on March 27, 1915, in Atoka, TN. Joe graduated from Memphis Technical High School in 1933 and attended Union University in Jackson, TN. He worked at the Memphis Street Railway as a conductor/driver. He also worked at the Fischer Aircraft assembly plant at the beginning of WWII. At the age of 27, Joe became a US Marine Sergeant in the WWII Pacific Theater, where he served in communications in the Solomon Islands, Philippines, and Okinawa. After his return from the war, he joined General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), where he retired as Regional Finance Manager in 1978. After his retirement, Joe was an avid reader, gardener and cook. There was nothing he liked better than to cook for others. His lasagna is well known across the nation and is made regularly by his children and grandchildren. Joe was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. Joe is survived by his wife of 68 years Virginia (Ginny) O’Neill. Joe and Ginny met in Memphis, TN, at a church picnic when he feigned twisting his ankle. Since Ginny was a nursing student, she came to his assistance…and the rest is history. He is also survived by his daughter Ann Padios of Pensacola, FL, and sons Joe O’Neill of Scottsdale, AZ, Dan O’Neill of Dallas, TX, and Tim O’Neill (Tracy) of Tybee Island, GA; grandchildren Debbie Padios of Memphis, TN, Cindy Davila of Pensacola, FL, Scott Padios of Rifle, CO, Joe O’Neill (Lisa) of Marana, AZ, Chris O’Neill (Amy) of Tucson, AZ, Cassandra Landeros (Jorge) of Littleton, CO, Griffin O’Neill (Shawna) of Plano, TX, and Nevin and Fallon O’Neill of Tybee Island, GA; and 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 15, 2015 at The Wildwood Chapel. Service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, June 15, 2015 at The Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road.
