Joseph Louis Perry's Obituary
Joseph “Joe” Louis Perry, 83, passed away with loving wife at his side and in the presence of his family at Methodist Richardson Medical Center on January 9, 2023.
Joe was born October 16, 1939 in Paris, TX to Joseph Lancles Perry and Florine Agnes Eisele Perry where he spent his younger years and later moved to Wichita Falls, TX where he graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1957. After graduation, Joe enlisted in the Navy on Oct 9, 1957 as an SM (Signalman recruit), E1, and advanced quickly making SMC (Signalman Chief Petty Officer), E7, by Jul 18, 1966 while aboard the USS Washtenaw County (LST-1166) out of Yokosuka, Japan. The LST, Landing Ship and Tank, known as part of the “Gator Navy” is the type of vessel that Joe primarily served aboard. He served as an Instructor on Treasure Island and as a Military Attaché to New Zealand and Australia while stationed in Hawaii. He retired from the Navy in 1977, having received numerous awards including the Silver and Bronze Star as a CWO2. After finishing an Associate degree in Business Management Joe had a second career at Briggs-Weaver.
Joe was truly a wonderful, loving husband and always remained fiercely devoted to family. He was Santa Claus’s helper passing out the gifts at the family Christmas gathering and would get on the floor to play with the kids.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Sachiko Ann Ohshima Perry.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph Lancles Perry and Florine Agnes Eisele Perry.
Donations in honor of Joe’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Interment is at DFW National Cemetery with Military Honors.
