Joseph Howard Sullivan's Obituary
Born February 3, 1963 in Dallas, Texas, being a sixth generation Dallas Texan descended from the Hunnicutt family who along with John N. Bryan were founders of Dallas. Passed from this life to eternal life April 7, 2015 in Scurry, Texas. Preceded in death by father, Robert Alan Sullivan and survived by mother, Helen J. Sullivan, brother Bradley Alan Sullivan and wife Liberty, sister Kathy Ann Reid and husband John. Joseph became interested in music at the age of five and began his musical education on the family piano. His family loved listening to his practice and private family performances. Graduated from W. W. Samuel High School, Dallas I.S.D. Received Bachelor of Education from Baylor University and Master of Music Education from University of North Texas. Fun summer jobs were playing his trumpet in a small marching band at Six Flags Over Texas and performing in the musical Texas!! at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. He played music at First Baptist Church Arlington for a few years and most recently was employed for 19 years in the music ministry of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Fort Worth. Joseph taught music in the Kennedale and Mansfield Independent School Districts in Tarrant County. Most recently he taught music for a charter internet school Texas Virtual Academy. His supervisor wrote, “Please know how much his coworkers and students loved him. He was an amazing and gifted music teacher, inspiring many students to follow their hearts and their dreams. Joseph made a difference in the lives of so many. We will all miss him.” Indeed we will. The funeral service for Joseph will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Scurry, with visitation two hours prior. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kaufman County Children’s Advocacy Center, 500 S. Washington Street, Kaufman, Texas, 75142 or Dallas County Pioneer Association, P. O.
