Joseph W. Pao's Obituary
PAO, JOSEPH W. was born November 28, 1920 in Mentokou, China, near Beijing. He was the eldest of seven children. He spent his early life on a farm, and later worked in Beijing and Nanjing with the U.S. military for the Military Advisory Group in China (MAGIC). There he met his wife, Josephine and they married in 1948. They were able to leave China in 1950, and they lived in Singapore until 1956, when they arrived in the U.S. by ocean liner, the USS Cleveland. Joe and Josephine then became long term residents of Dallas where he worked in accounting, and she had her own retail business. He lost his wife in 1998. Shortly thereafter he had some health difficulties and moved to Treemont Retirement Community where he was able to enjoy life until his recent illness. He is survived by daughter, Theresa Pao Veggeberg and her husband, Kurt; son, Lawrence Pao, and daughter, Dr. Julie Pao and her husband, Dr. Dale Odell. Also survived by grandchildren, Claire Veggeberg and Scott Veggeberg, as well as great-grandson, Ethan Scott Clark. The family wishes to thank his doctors and St. Paul Hospital for excellent care, and Treemont Retirement for the many good years he had there. A graveside service is planned for Monday November 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St Rita Catholic Community, or the church or charity of your choice, and remember his good will and optimism.
