Josephine Matocha Thurman's Obituary
Josephine Matocha Thurman was born in Cameron, Texas on December 29th, 1931 to the late Bohumil and Annie Matocha. She went home to be with the Lord on August 2nd, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Houston and husband Greg, son Mark Thurman and wife Angela: grandchildren Jonathan Houston, Mark Houston and Shannon Patten, Haley Van den Broek, Megan Thurman Jones and Nicholas Thurman. Great grandchildren include Noah, James, Leah, Madison, Aria, and Gray.
“Jo” as her friends knew her, was an active member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church for 40+ years and a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #1719.
She taught art at various Lake Highlands area schools for over 20 years where she shared her love of art with her students.
She spent her last years at CC Young Retirement Comminity in Dallas where she was a joy to her fellow residents and excellent caregivers.
Jo, Mom, Grandma, G-Ma, Grammy was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Thurman. She is also survived by her brother Al Matocha and numerous nieces and nephews.
A 9:30 am Rosary followed by a 10:00 am Celebration of Life Mass will take place on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023 at St Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Road, Dallas, Texas 75238 with Rev. Josef Vollmer-Konig, Celebrant.
