Joyce Whisnant Cox's Obituary
Joyce Whisnant Willis Broiles Cox, 94 passed away peacefully at Arlington Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. She was born in Eustice, Texas on August 16, 1929, to the late William “Pete” Whisnant and Zimmie Whisnant. She spent her childhood in Eustice on a cotton farm where she would help pick cotton before and after school. At the age of 16, she quit school and moved to Dallas to work. Shortly after her move she met Brady Lee Willis. In 1945 they joined together in marriage and started a family. Together they had 4 children.
After the marriage ended, Joyce later fell in love again and married Emmett Broiles. They were married for 18 years until his death in 1994. She and Joe spent their time traveling and she enjoyed dancing to country music.
After Emmett passed away, Joyce found love yet again and married Charlie Cox. They were married for 2 years before his passing in 1998.
Joyce worked at Texas Instruments as a technician for 20 years before her retirement. She then started her second career as a photo developer for Eckerds Drug Store. She dedicated 12 years to the company before retiring again. Joyce then started volunteering at a former senior center in Dallas.
Joyce lived in the same house in Dallas for 60 years. In 2020 she moved to Arlington with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the traffic go by and loved talking on the phone to family and friends. As her health started declining, Kathy and Chris became her caretakers until she went home to be with the Lord.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husbands, Brady Lee Willis, Emmett “Joe” Broiles and Charlie Cox; her children Eddie Lee Willis and Gary Wayne Willis; Grandson Eric Garza; brothers, William “Bill” Whisnant, Jr. and Raymond Whisnant; sisters Loree Traxall, Fayrene Ballard, Arlie Cook and Marlean Ashton.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Dorothy Willis and Kathy Galvin (Chris). She is also survived by her twin sister Lois Richmond; grandchildren Eddie Lee Willis, Jr., Tammy “BoAnn” Nelson, Courtney Davin, Chad Willis, Gary Willis, Jr., Jason Willis, Crissy Willis, Nina Garza, Thomas Norman, Timothy Norman, April Norman and Cindy Lowry; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and a host of extended family.
A funeral service to honor Joyce will be held at 11am in Restland Funeral Home’s Wildwood Chapel, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243, with visitation one hour prior. Immediately following the funeral service Joyce will be interred next to her husband Emmett Broiles. Pastor Nathan Tucker will officiate the service.
