Joyce Porter Meek's Obituary
Joyce is survived by her husband, Walter L. Meek; daughter, Claudia Porter and husband Jason Withrow; sons: Sandy Porter and wife Betty, Billy Porter and his wife Bridgett, and Roger Porter and his wife Melinda; step-son, Ronnie Porter and his wife, Bonnie; grandchildren: Myka Porter, Terra Porter, Shawn Porter, Corrina Porter, Scott Porter, Christopher Porter, Joey Porter; and three great-grandchildren, Cecil, Brooklyn, & Jett. She was preceded in death by her first husband Claude Billy Porter, Sr., and her parents, Ruby & Roy Shoulders. After Joyce raised her children, she worked as a police dispatcher for a short time, but decided to follow a lifelong dream and attended Eastfield College to begin her dream of becoming a jewelry designer. Joyce created a home business, Dreams by Joyce, which she crafted beautiful jewelry in her home. Joyce, with the help of Walter, carried her unique designs to craft shows & art shows all over the metroplex. Her daughter Claudia assisted her in the making of the jewelry by cutting out Joyce’s designs from silver, brass, copper & gold. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. Joyce’s life was full of love & laughter, She had two long happy marriages, Billy 27 years & Walter 29 years. Only death ended each of them. Joyce taught her children two important things in life; God has a plan for you & everything that is & there is a reason for everything that happens. I know, as her daughter, I have lived by that all of my days & I will continue to till I am blessed with being with her again. The family will recieve visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, April 26, 2010 at Restland Funeral Home; A service will be held in Joyce’s honor at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel with interment to follow in Restland Memorial Park, Acacia Lawn. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 8900 John W. Carpenter Freeway Dallas, TX 75247 (214) 819-1200 as well as the Alzheimers Association, ALZ.org.
