Joyce Miller's Obituary
Joyce Marie Kilmer Miller, beloved wife, mother, Gigi-Ma and friend, has entered Heaven’s gates. Joyce was born on December 27, 1927 in Binghamton, New York and passed on March 10, 2015. Joyce lived a long fulfilling life with most of her years as a Garland, TX resident recently moving to Abilene. She married Art Miller on June 8, 1946, raised 4 children, and worked as a full-time banking advocate for Savings of America for a number of years, and later after retirement, volunteered time to help her husband with the Children’s Hospital charity dollhouses. In more recent years, Joyce had moved to Abilene to be closer to family as she battled Alzheimer’s. She never let the disease get the best of her mostly because she held strong faith. The disease would take her back a lot and she would reminisce and the positive of it all was that the family was able to learn so much more about her. She was a woman of independence but also treasured her family. She got to spend a lot of time with her great-grandkids and they loved to hear her stories of working in the restaurant industry in New York, her ice-skating days and how much she missed it, dancing and fancy dinners, clothing and anything to do with fashion, her many fun times with her best friend of 29 years, Rita, and mostly they would look at books of birds and she would teach them everything she knew, which was a lot. She was a loving naturist, her favorites being gardening, birds and animals of any kind, and especially her Maltese, Pebbles. She will be missed by many but we rest knowing she is in a better place and we will see her again. “She was a Proverbs 31 woman” Preceding her in death: husband; Arthur K. Miller, parents; Robert and Margaret Kilmer and brother; Robert Kilmer.
