Joyce R. Nichols, a loving wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, passed away Friday morning, February 24, 2012. Her passing concluded a long courageous battle with breast cancer; but she walks today with Jesus-happy and well. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday afternoon in Memorial Chapel at Restland of Dallas, Greenville@ Restland Road, Dallas, TX. Family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2012 from 6-8pm at Restland Funeral Home. Joyce was born in Adamsville, TN to Harvie David and Mildred Lutisha Angle Tackett; the ninth of 11 children. After spending 21 years with Look Magazine, she worked as an accountant with General Computer Systems, U.S. Department of Energy and the Small Business Administration before accepting her last-and favorite-position with Excel Telecommunications Inc. in 1989. To honor Joyce’s commitment and dedication, Excel created the “Joyce R Nichols Perseverance Award” of which she was the first recipient. Joyce was an exceptional lady, loving wife and loyal sister, but the title of which she was most fond was “Grandma Ladybug”, the name given to her by Austin Funk, her grandson. She was a “second mom” to many nieces and nephews and a faithful friend to many. Her legacy of courage and compassion will live on in the lives of those she has touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Scott Rosenberg; husband, Dave Nichols; husband, Gerald Funk; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by her grandson Austin; brother Roy Tackett and wife Sudie of Grandview, TX; sister, Mary Harrell of Midwest City, OK; sister, Jean Martin of Grandview; 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
