Joyce Alene Ruminer's Obituary
Joyce Preskitt Ruminer passed away in her sleep on November 23, 2022. Joyce was born on Octoer 28, 1917 in Norman, Oklahoma to Varney and May Elizabeth Preskitt. Her family eventually moved to Oklahoma City where she graduated from Central High School.
Joyce met Ralph Ruminer in Seminole, Oklahoma and they were married February 13, 1937. They had two daughters: Joy and Judy before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1943. In 1957 the family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas and their final move was to Garland, Texas in 1968. Joyce was a “stay at home” mom for several years before she entered the workforce. She was secretary to an elementary school principal, bookkeeper for Gordon’s Insurance, bookkeeper for Dixie Wax Paper Company and bookkeeper for Liquid Paper Corporation (she always loved numbers) before she retired.
Joyce learned to paint after retirement and she enjoyed creating pictures from old memories as well as new experiences. She loved to play bridge, bingo and dominoes and participated in Vacation Bible school at her church, Northlake Baptist Church, until she was well into her 90’s. She volunteered to transport friends to doctor appointments, grocery stores and the post office when they needed a lift until she gave up driving at the age of 97. She loved spending time with her family and attended games, concerts and recitals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ralph: father, Varney Preskitt: mother , May Elizabeth Preskitt: her beloved brother, Stanley Preskitt and her sister-in-law, Mary Preskitt. She was also preceded in death by every one of her first cousins. She is survived by her daughters: Joy Kiteley of Rockwall, Texas and Judy Jones and husband, Elvin Jones of Jenks, Ok. (formerly of Arlington, TX); 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and 4 great-great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 nephews, 1 niece and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of Brookdale Assisted Living in Rockwall, TX and Trinity Hospice for their love and kindness toward our mom and grandmother.
