Joyce Walters' Obituary
Walters, Joyce Of Richardson, TX, passed away July 4, 2010, peacefully in the arms of her loving family in her home. Born January 12, 1931, in Bryce, TX, to the late Marcus & Mary Lucinda McCrary, the youngest of 3 siblings. Joyce graduated from Tyler High School in 1949. Thereafter, she married Hugh Walters in 1950, settled in Shreveport, LA., and together had 3 children. In 1969 the family moved to Grand Prairie, TX. Joyce established herself in a male-dominated profession, building homes in Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill, eventually establishing her business in Rockwall, where she built over 200 homes in the Lake Ray Hubbard area. She was the first woman ever named to the Board of Dallas Home and Apartment Builders Association, and also served on the state and national boards. Joyce loved sailing, traveling and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Elaine Healy, Suzanne Walters & partner Colleen Hamlin; & a son, Michael. She is also survived by her sister, Beth Stevenson; grandchildren Cathy Healy Lee & husband Jack; Brett Healy & wife Naomi; Chad Walters; Justin Walters; Allyson Hamlin; & four great-grandchildren, Cera, Gavin, Ana, & Alizah. Preceding her in death are her parents, brother Ralph, and son-in-law, Joe Healy. With Chaplain Paul Ramler officiating, and Joyce’s dear cousin, JoAnn Clark, paying tribute, a Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 16, @ 12:30 p.m. in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of TX, 1440 W Mockingbird Lane, Dallas 75247 or www.vnatexas.org.
