Juanice Nadine Lister's Obituary
LISTER, JUANICE NADINE was born to S.M. and Ruby Eloise Pollock in Mexia, Texas on July 25, 1923. She graduated from Prairie View A & M in 1944, and went on to receive her Masters degree from Howard University in Washington D.C. in 1946. She began her career as a music teacher in Abilene, Texas. She later returned to Mexia, where she met her husband-to-be, Vernal Lister. They were married in 1952. For 35 years, Juanice continued her career as a music teacher in elementary schools in Dallas and later, in Garland, Texas. Known as “Potts” to her family and friends, she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Antioch Baptist Church in Mexia, Texas, and the New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas. Potts was an accomplished painter who for decades produced beautiful still-life works of art, using oil, acrylic, and various other media. Her love of color was an extension of her view of the world, and the joy and humor with which she approached life. Juanice brightened the lives and lifted the hearts of all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Wanda Wormley. She is survived by her husband, Vernal Lister; daughter Vickie Lister; sister-in-law, Hattie Wheat; nephews Wallace Wormley, Wayne Wormley, Michael Lister, and William Lister; niece Joan Lister; great-niece Francince Williams, great-nephews Wallace Wormley and William Lister; their spouses and partners; and a host of other loving relatives and special friends. Visitation will be 7:00p.m. to 8:30p.m. Wednesday at the Restland Funeral Home with Funeral Services at 1: OOpn Thursday, Mar. 24, 2011 at the Sweet Home Baptist Church, 1019 South 1st Street, Garland, TX 75040.
