Juanita Hess' Obituary
Nora Juanita Ward Hess, 94, of Sherman, Texas, daughter of the King, loving wife, mother, and “Nonnie,” transferred to the Church Triumphant on June 26, 2019. Born January 20, 1925, in Sweetwater, Texas, Nita moved to Lubbock and met the love of her life, Lowell Kenneth Hess, who was finishing pilot training in Lubbock, and they married June 8, 1943.As a new bride, Nita was a pillar of strength when Ken was shot down, captured, and held as a POW until war’s end. She loved the military life: making friends, entertaining, traveling, even raising three children when Ken was deployed. Known for her love of “gettin’ to go,” rumor has it that she could pack up and move in 24 hours, leaving the house Clorox-clean.The epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, Nita was happiest when serving others. Famous for her pimiento and cheese, ham salad, and blonde brownies, Nonnie made sure her grandchildren never went home hungry or empty-handed.Nita is preceded in death by her husband Ken, seven siblings, and son-in-love Les Ross. She is survived by her three children, Kris Ross; Ken Hess and wife Deb; Kitten Arthur and husband, Richard; six grandchildren, Jason Bean; Jeremy Ross and wife, Jincy; JP Hess and wife Mary; Cort Arthur and wife Jamie; Cole Arthur and wife Shelby; and Jenna Brown and husband Matt; six great grands, Brennan and Brett Ross; Hendrix and Halen Arthur; Abby Arthur; and Adam Brown.Funeral services will be July 2 at 12:30 pm at the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Air Force Enlisted Village at afev.us.The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Willows Sherman, special assistant Judy Perryman, and Visionary Hospice.
