Judge Al Samons' Obituary
SAMONS, JUDGE AL of Mesquite died Aug 2 in Forney. Born in Joiner, Arkansas, June 5, 1932 to Adrian D. Samons and Edna Samons, Al joined the U.S. Army at 16 and served in Fort Lewis, Washington and in Alaska before it was a state. He lived 10 years in Michigan working for General Motors. In 1963, he attended Hicks Barber College and was trained as a Sebring Hair Designer. Moving to Dallas, he opened a hair styling salon at Fitzhugh and North Central in 1966 and later opened shops in Mesquite and on the square in Fairfield. He moved to Fairfield in 1980 and married Jo Reta Samons in 1984. In 1990, he was elected justice of the peace in Fairfield and served 16 years. Al was an avid fisherman and was proud to have caught a 12 pound, 7 ounce bass, the largest ever caught at Red Lake. He was a Mason and an active member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Revitalization Committee. Ill health and desire to be near his family prompted Al and Jo to move to the Dallas area in 2006. Al is survived by his wife Jo Reta Samons, daughters Linda Samons, Debbie Carter, Phyllis Landgrebe and son Mike Samons, stepdaughter Charlotte Rushing and stepsons David Lewis, Bob Lewis and Jim Lewis, grandchildren Alisha, Elizabeth, Jason, Christopher and Kelli and 4 great grandchildren. There will be a viewing 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 5th at Restland Funeral Home and services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 6th at Restland Memorial Chapel.
