Judith Ellen Schies' Obituary
SCHIES, Judith Judith (Judy) Ellen Schies went to join her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all that knew and loved her. Judy was born on January 27, 1939 to Harry E. Smith and Opal McCue Smith in Kansas City, MO and grew up in Leavenworth, KS where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) W. Schies. She graduated from Leavenworth High School and was married immediately thereafter, which was the beginning of their 62 plus years of marriage. This union was blessed with 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The couple moved to the Dallas area in 1959, after 2 years military service, where they have resided for over 60 years. The couple immediately joined Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where Judy began her active participation in church activities including LWML, Careciples, Couples Club and Ruth Mary Circle as well as serving 2 years as Church Secretary. She spent 4 years as secretary to the President of the International Lutheran Laymans League. She then began her 10 year employment with Southern Gas Association in Dallas, TX. She was very active in various community organizations serving as: Girl Scout Leader, PTA President and awarded Life Membership of the Texas PTA, Beta Sigma Phi President, Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic and DAR Regent. She was also a member of North Dallas Womens Club, Book Haven Book Club, Listeners Book Club, Bridge Club and Bluffview Garden Club. She was politically active serving as Precinct Chairman, Early Voting Election Judge and member of Dallas County Council of Republican Women, Preston West Republican Club President, Texas Federation of Republican Women, Northwood Republican Women and Pachyderm Club. Bob and Judy were long time world travelers, visiting Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed traveling to see family throughout the United States. Judy is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Peggy and her husband, Mark of Parsons, KS; son, Bob Jr. and wife, Glynis of Mansfield, TX; daughter, Susan and her husband Aaron of Arlington, TX, as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many family and friends. Both the visitation (January 1, 6:00-8:00 p.m) and the funeral service (January 2, 10:00 a.m) will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dallas. Judy will be laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. She will be missed. Memorials may be sent to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
