Judy "Nana" Henderson Butts' Obituary
Judy “Nana” Henderson Butts of Garland, Texas went to be with her heavenly Father on April 10, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. She was loved by all who met her and she will be missed by her family and friends. Judy was born March 6, 1940 in Seagraves, Texas, the oldest daughter of Vivian and J. T. Henderson and is survived by her sister, Janet Lou Henderson Johnston of Midland, Texas.
Judy was raised in San Angelo, Texas and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1958 and for a short time attended Angelo State. She met Ted Butts in 1959 and they married on April 6, 1960 in San Angelo. Judy and Ted had two children, Marcy Lynn Butts Tull of Midland, Texas and Dan Leslie Butts of Red Oak Texas. In 1963, they moved from San Angelo to “the big city” and they raised their family in Garland. Some of the highlights of their marriage include their trips to Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, the Indianapolis 500 and the D-Day tour in Europe with the 82nd Airborne.
While in San Angelo, Judy began a career in banking at San Angelo Savings. She would continue her career in banking with Dallas Federal Savings and Loan and Bank of America until she retired in 2001. Judy never met a stranger and loved her customers and friends dearly.
Judy loved to travel and she loved the beach. She loved Tom Selleck, Toby Keith and red solo cups. Judy loved her cat Rhea, Mexican food, Bloody Mary’s, Margaritas and “Koolaidy” wine. She loved playing the slot machines in Shreveport and Choctaw with family and friends. She loved bingo, Mexican train and playing cards. Judy always had a great time no matter what she was doing.
Judy would say that the one thing she loved more than anything else, well except for Ted, was her six granddaughters, Allison Claire Tull Williams, Michelle Elaine Tull Ryan, Carly Catherine Tull Mundy, Sara Lynn Ashley Tull Gresback all of Midland, Texas, Danielle Katelin Butts of Red Oak, Texas and Dallas Leslie Butts of Plano Texas. She was the best grandmother in the world. Judy was also blessed with seven great grandchildren, Ava Lynn Ryan, John Patrick Mundy, III and Annie Tull Ryan, Charlotte Catherine Mundy, Mary Margaret Ashley Mundy, and Elaine Kingsbery Ryan all of Midland, Texas and Denver Ryan Butts of Plano, Texas.
Judy loved her church, First Methodist in Garland. She was “Nana” to many there as well. She loved her Sunday School class too. In November of 2021 Judy moved to “Senior” living at Brookdale Club Hill and in less than two weeks she made many new friends. Judy had a blessed and wonderful life – filled with family, friends, and fun. Judy lived her life to the fullest, with no regrets. We all will miss her very much.
We would like to thank her caregivers with At Home Personal Care and her nurses, Molly and Andrea with Amatus Hospice. Nana was blessed with wonderful and compassionate care.
We will celebrate Judy’s life with a memorial service on April 28, 2023 at the Clubhouse at Brookdale Club Hill in Garland at 1:00 p.m. and we will receive guests following the service at 2:00 p.m. in the Resident Lounge at Brookdale Club Hill in Garland. Judy requests that your attire be casual and in bright colors for her Memorial Service. Pallbearers include her six granddaughters and her seven great grandchildren. We request in lieu of flowers; a contribution be made in her memory to the Youth Department at First United Methodist Church in Garland, Union Gospel Mission of Dallas or Rock the Desert Ministries, Inc. in Midland, Texas. Arrangements are in the care of Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.
