Julia E. Cornwell's Obituary
Julia Ervin Cornwell was born December 24, 1923, in Maypearl, Texas, the best Christmas present his mother ever received. He was a resident of Garland for most of his life before moving to Van in 2010. Ervin passed away at the age of 91 on May 14, 2015 in Van, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl K. Cornwell; his mother, Maggie M. Cretcher; his brother, Bobby Joe Cornwell; and his granddaughter, Wendy S. Miller. Survivors include his wife, Helen Cornwell; sister, Billye Barrow of Burleson; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dwayne Wheeler of Van; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Gayle Cornwell of Rowlett; grandson and spouse, Ben and Janet Wheeler and great granddaughter, Marin of Farmers Branch; grandson and spouse, Daniel and Brittany Wheeler and great grandson, Elliott of Austin; grandson and wife, Brett and Ashley Cornwell and great granddaughter expected soon of Fate; former grandson-in-law, Tim Miller and great granddaughter, Reese of Newbern, TN; and three nieces. Ervin graduated from Italy High School in 1941. He attended college in Arlington before joining the U.S. Navy. As a Seaman 1st Class he proudly served in the Philippines during World War II. After his service to the country, he became a certified air conditioning and refrigeration repairman, retiring from Dring Engineering in Dallas after almost 50 years. Ervin was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He loved to hunt, fish, garden and take his grandchildren camping. You couldn’t be around him without smiling and laughing. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t solve or a joke he couldn’t tell. We hope he’s fixing the air conditioning so we’ll have cooler summers and are sure he’s cracking his jokes in Heaven. The service for Ervin Cornwell will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 3:00 PM in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Van Community Ministries, 326 W. Main, Van, Texas 75790.
