Julia Mae Jennette Johnson's Obituary
JOHNSON, JULIA MAE JENNETTE peacefully joined Jesus, her Savior, on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Dallas, TX, at the age of 96. Julia was an amazing woman of faith, joy, grace, wisdom, encouragement and humor.Julia was born on March 13, 1922 in Grantham Township, Wayne County, NC to Ezra W. Jennette and Anne Cox Jennette. She was one of nine children growing up on a farm. After a year at Guilford College, Julia was employed in the finance department at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. There she met James H. Johnson, her beloved Jimmy. After marrying on July 12, 1944, they moved to Jimmy’s hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, and began their new life together. Julia was a stay-at-home mom to her sons, Barry and Craig, and was very active as a Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteer at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 44 years. After her sons went off to college, she worked at Eastern Hills High School as an administrator for 15 years. In 2005, Julia moved to Dallas to be closer to her family.Such joy came from her role as a grandmother. There is nothing she wouldn’t have done for her seven grandchildren. In her later years she delighted in knowing 10 great grandchildren.Julia was predeceased by her husband of almost 57 years, James H. Johnson. She is survived by her sons Barry Johnson and wife Barbara of Dallas, TX, Craig Johnson and his wife Leigh of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Emily Wakefield (Reid), Melissa Jenkins (Kyle), Matthew Johnson (Tessa), Meredith Keegan (Cameron), Austin Johnson, Mallory Johnson, and Hunter Johnson; great grandchildren Travis, Drew, Julia Wakefield/Samuel, Noah, Caleb, Luke, Josiah Jenkins/ Molly Mae and James Johnson.Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Kyle Jenkins, Reid Wakefield and Cameron Keegan.Visitation will be Sunday, June 24, 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Restland Funeral Homes, Dallas, TX.Memorial Service will be Monday, June 25, 2:30 pm, Memorial Chapel, Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX, with a reception following the service.Donations in Julia’s memory can be made to Loving All Peoples, P.O.Box 671127, Dallas, TX 75367, Search Ministries Area 16, P.O.Box 165029, Fort Worth, TX 76161-5029, or the charity of your choice.
