Julia Kay Thedford's Obituary
Julia (Julie) Kay Ward Thedford was born in Houston, Texas on July 18, 1942 to Theodore Wallie and Mary Louise Ward. She departed this earth on May 27, 2015 in Richardson, Texas. She married Marvin Thedford on December 27, 1966 in Houston, Texas. She was the first graduating class of Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas in 1960. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Texas Woman’s University in 1964. Julie was involved in numerous organizations but her heart was dearly involved with the Dallas County Aggie Moms and anything Texas A&M University related. An avid historian and genealogist, she took great pride in researching her lineage and her involvement in various Texas and other historical chapters. Julie was a life-long Episcopalian and was a member of Saint Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas. Two particular remembrances of Julie make her family and friends smile widely. First, Julie was an Aggie through and through. In fact, there are four generations of Aggies in her family dating back to a great uncle in 1894. Despite being unable to attend what was still an all male school during her college years, her blood was entirely maroon. Second, she was not only a pillar in her neighborhood, but a part of the lives of her neighbors. “We just lost one of the matriarchs of Bedford Drive,” remembers one of the former neighbor kids. “Mrs. Thedford was a parent who ruled the roost, and she loved all of us as much as she loved her own children.” Another neighbor recalls, “She and Marvin have lived in their house since 1970 with many of the same neighbors. We’re all still connected thanks to her. She constantly wrote letters and kept up with people, even if they moved away. She was a friend for life.” Julie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Marvin Thedford and their three children: Mary Helen and Clay Ramsey and their son Robert; twin son Tommy Thedford and Emily Thomas Watson and their son William; and twin daughter Katherine and Michael Blachly. Viewing will be on Sunday, May 31 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be on Monday, June 1 at 11:00 am at Saint Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church. Graveside service to follow at Restland Funeral Home. And now as every good Aggie would wish their obituary to end: Whoop! Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Julie’s honor to your local favorite local animal rescue groups, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the American Heart Association.
