Julie Abernathy has been a true friend over the years. I have known her as a First Baptist Richardson member. Among her many achievements, her work teaching English to internationals has been exemplary. All she has done has been to the glory of God. I count it an honor to have had a small part in her ministry.
I met Julie at International Friends for worker training back in September, 2017. She was greeting all of us to came to that room not knowing anything. What I remember most that day was that she always had a smile on her face. I really enjoyed listening to Julie tell her story about International Friends which I have also come to love.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I also lost my Mom in January and I know how hard it is and how much you will miss her. Isn’t it comforting that she will be with Jesus! It is cause for celebration for her but sorrow for us because we are not with them. I am so comforted that this life is such a small portion of eternal life. I know you are too. Julie was a true servant who had genuine love for all people. Her involvement in FBCR’s International Ministry is a good example of her servanthood and compassion. She loved her family and was willing to serve them as well. What a great example for all of us to follow. She will be missed and remembered. What a celebration the family will have as they recall all she was and all she did. Our thought and prayers go out to those who loved her and knew her.
Julie was a blessing to everyone who knew her. I had the privilege of working with her for many years in International Friends ministry at FBCR, watching her touch so many lives and showing God’s love to people from around the world. She helped establish that ministry in 1969, and it is stronger than ever almost 50 years later. I had the particular pleasure of going to Prague with her in the summer of 1999, teaching English for three weeks to pastors from Eastern Europe at the International Baptist Theological Seminary. Julie’s ‘persuasion’ in getting me to go was persistent, encouraging, and undeniable…and the experience changed my life. I am so grateful for Julie’s inspiration, example, leadership, dedication, selflessness…I could go on and on. I can’t imagine a world without Julie Abernathy in it, but I know she is rejoicing in Heaven with her husband. My heartfelt and sincere condolences go to her loving family, and to her friends at FBCR, and to her International Friends throughout the world.
