Julius Podhrasky Jr.'s Obituary
Julius Podhrasky passed away peacefully on June 1, 2019 at the age of 98. He was born in Dallas on April 2, 1921 and preceded in death by parents, Julius and Frances Homola Podhrasky and sister, Frances Sparks. Survived by his wife of 72 years Bertha, sons; David Podhrasky, Robert Podhrasky and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Tricia Hambrick and Mike, Philip Podhrasky and Jenny, Jana Reynolds and Matt, Julie Podhrasky and Jessica Villalobos; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Madison and Ryan Podhrasky, Kristen Graves and Hillary, Autumn Hambrick and Ace Reynolds, and great-great grandchildren, Emma and Sophia Graves.Julius graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas and accepted a position with the Magnolia Petroleum Company, later Mobil Oil in their Duncanville research and development facility. A lifelong employee he retired after 34 years of service. He used his technical talent to develop many tools in the early days of seismic oilfield exploration. Julius took a leave from his job from 1942 to 1946 to serve in the US Navy in the Pacific theater. Julius piloted a TBM Avenger and flew from the USS Bennington aircraft carrier. A veteran of combat and later humanitarian missions he had the honor to fly in the lead formation in the United States show of power over the USS Missouri as the armistice was signed.Julius was a first generation American and a lifelong part of the local Czech community. Along with his technical talents he was an accomplished gymnast, musician, avid reader and had an unselfish willingness to help others. He was a member of Sokol Dallas, SPJST Lodge 130, and WFLA Lodge 401, and enjoyed performing with the Dallas Czech Concert Orchestra and the Mesquite Symphony.Visitation for Mr. Julius Podhrasky will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home.
