Bristol, June's Obituary
June Miller Bristol
Anastasia June Miller Bristol was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 5, 1929. She attended Hillcrest High School and grew up down the street from the father of her three children, Michael, Matthew, and Gwendolyn Bristol. She attended Southern Methodist University with great pride.
As the daughter of a Greek immigrant, a love of history was instilled in her from an early age. Her father helped build many structures throughout Dallas, including the Greek Orthodox Church downtown and the apartment complex where she brought home her first child.
She spent the first half of her life as a devoted daughter, sister, friend, and mother of three. June raised her children in the Methodist Church and fostered a love of books, crossword puzzles, and history, which often included numerous cross-country trips in the family station wagon.
As she gained more free time, she enjoyed spending it with her childhood best friends, affectionately known as the Pink Toes. She was an avid bridge player and a dedicated leader in both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
June was an accomplished lineage researcher, tracing her family history back to the 1100s and William the Conqueror.
June planned and hosted countless events, luncheons, and teas for the Pink Toes, DAR, DRT, and her church. She was a gracious hostess through and through, a passion she passed along to her daughter and granddaughter.
During the second half of her life, June pursued her passion for travel. Beginning with a month-long journey to Morocco, which remained her favorite destination throughout her life, she went on to explore China, Russia, India, Africa, New Zealand, the Arctic, and countless other destinations. When her granddaughter once asked whether it would be easier to list the places she had visited or the places she had not, June quickly replied, “Where I haven’t, by a mile.”
June instilled her love of travel, history, and card games in her family from a young age. This love of adventure was celebrated in 2007 when she took her family on an international cruise beginning in Istanbul, Turkey. The trip spanned nearly four continents and created memories her family continues to cherish. The following summer, the family reunited in southern Italy, where her son and son-in-law provided the locals with stories that likely lasted for generations.
June was strong, independent, and wise. Anyone who spent time with her quickly recognized her determination and discipline. She expected much from herself and those she loved because she knew what they were capable of achieving. Her family will forever carry with them the lessons she taught, the standards she set, and the countless memories she created.
June was preceded in death by her parents and all others who welcomed her into eternal rest.
She is survived by her son, Mike Bristol; her son, Matt Bristol and his wife, Patti; her daughter, Gwen Gammill and her husband, Eddie; her granddaughter, Ashley Gammill; and her granddaughter, Blayne Bristol Noblin and her husband, Jim Noblin.
Her legacy of love, adventure, hospitality, and family devotion will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
