June Templeton Estabrook's Obituary
It is with infinite sadness that the family of June Elizabeth Templeton Estabrook announces that she passed away on March 21, 2022, at UT Southwestern Clements Hospital in Dallas, TX, after a brief illness, at age 94.
June was born in Rochester, NY to Irene Winifred (Partis) and H. Edward Templeton. She grew up in Albany, NY, attending Albany public schools and graduating from Albany High School in 1945. She was married to Ronald W. Estabrook in 1947. They were a team, where he was the professor and she was the faculty wife, ‘behind the scenes support’. They moved to Dallas in 1968 with their family where Ronald joined the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School as Virginia Lazenby O'Hara Professor of Biochemistry and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry. June and Ronald participated in many professional and social functions, including traveling to international scientific conferences and assisting students, young faculty and visiting professors in getting oriented and settled in Dallas. June was a long time member of the Faculty Women's Club and held several board positions over the years. One of her special projects was the ‘closet’ that held supplies for new and visiting faculty to help them establish a household in Dallas. She was also the club’s historian, as she had a very long tenure in the Club.
One of June’s passions was fashion and design. After one year of college at the design program at Ohio University, she returned to Albany, NY, to work at Honigsbaum’s, an upscale dress shop. This inspired a lifetime interest in doll collecting and doll making. She was a long time member of the United Federation of Doll Collectors.
June was predeceased by her husband, Ronald W. Estabrook, and her brother, James Herbert Templeton. She is survived by her children, Linda Gilbert (Steve) of Charlotte, NC, Laura Verinder (Sydney) of McKinney, TX, Jill Wisehart (Rex) of Denver, CO, David Estabrook of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mateja (Ethan), Amy Izard, Katie Byrne (Kevin), Nina Gilbert, Anna Gilbert, Austin Estabrook, Madison Estabrook; and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Henry, Emily, Piper, Abby, Nate, Hannah.
