Condolences to the family of Justo Gonzalez aka Grandpa (Mi mas sentido pesame a la familia). There are so many “..fitting and appropriate words to note for such a wonderful man, that taught me many life-lessons (i.e., the authentic heart of family from Mexico).” Grandpa had such an “…endless heart of love and generosity that did not end (to anyone, which he was a “trademark” of their marriage, as Grandma Chelo was that way too).
In order to get the word blending of respect for his Catholic Faith and traditions, I have to focus on what he would want as his “…family legacy.” As I focus on his origin from Monterrey, Mexico, I have to emphasize his close-knit family structure with his siblings and their children too.
I have spent a holiday in Dallas with the Gonzalezes (I actually stayed in two homes before too – Drs Gonzalez and then at the house that Grandpa and Grandma had too). As time evolved, he became a “friend to me as after my Parents’ passed,” which was always ensured such wonderful encounters and laughter. I have used the phrase “…he’s good as gold,” which is so fitting with wisdom at my age…mostly Biblical wisdom that is priceless to find the ladder to Heaven.
The last message I sent to him was on January 17th in the evening, telling my Sister Carmen to tell him “…Tell grandpa that I love him,” I received “hearts as a response.” Through the years, I did go and visit him, he loved eating his burritos, donuts and other foods (he was feeding himself well-after 100 years of age). I enjoyed sending certain foods for him/them through the years, one dish that he liked was my Prime Rib Roast on a holiday (Easter or other meals). It gave me “joy” that I could do something for this kindhearted soul. Visits with Grandpa were always filled with a “…smile when he same me or others and would talk a lil, then he was back to his Spanish television.” The last time that I did see him, was a few weeks before his passing, he was overcoming lower-lobe pneumonia, he was sleeping and did not see me.
Grandpa, I know that you are “…resting in peace, God knows the servant’s heart with love and dedication, the family pillar that you exhibited was to ‘raise each other up in character and business…working hard.’”
“Su espiritu alegre y su amor por la familia viviran siempre en nuestos corazones.” One of my BFFs is resting in peace with the Angels. Thank you for the experience and lessons of family, endless generosity and kindness.
We love you and will always miss you.
Love,
