J.W. DeWitt's Obituary
DeWitt, J.W. passed away peacefully in his home in Carrollton, Texas on Thursday, July 4, 2013. He was eighty-six years old. Known as Smiley, Mr. DeWitt was born in Grandfield, OK on May 14, 1927. He served in the Army and was recommended for officer training school. While stationed at Fort Knox he met his future wife, Marcella, and they married immediately upon his discharge. The DeWitts moved to Pampa, Texas, where they started their family and a successful roofing and construction company. J.W. found success in Perryton as well, and the family lived in Canadian for many years. Mr. DeWitt retired from his business at age seventy and actively enjoyed his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. J.W. is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella and son, Jimmy Wayne DeWitt. He is survived by children, Virginia DeWitt, Ron DeWitt, Mike DeWitt, Cathey Reyes, Venita Morehead, Calvin DeWitt, Dorothy Morgan, Karen Rodgers, J.W. DeWitt, Jr., Vickie Lauer, and Tim DeWitt, as well as twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. and designated to the J.W. and Marcella DeWitt Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 2:30 PM in Restland Memorial Chapel.
