Karen Michelle Corn's Obituary
Karen Michelle Corn, age 55, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of December 20, 2021, She was born in Garland, Texas on Tuesday, November 1, 1966, and was a proud, lifelong Dallasite. She was preceeded in death by her parents Lewis Lyle Corn and Carol Ann Corn (Wray) and her brother Kevin Corn. She is survived by Shannon Finklea, the love of her life and two very spoiled cats, Tornado and Thunder. She also leaves behind her Aunt Glenda, affectionaltely known as "Shorty". Karen was blessed to have many friends whose friendship often spanned decades.
Karen was very proud of her career as a 911 and EMS dispatcher. She proudly wore the pins on her EMS jacket which were bestowed to her for the times she walked laypeople through CPR and the patient's life was saved. There is no possible measure of the impact she had on so many for being the calm and reassuring voice on the 911 line. She was affectionately (maybe not) known as the "dot watcher" - always closely watching over her crews on the ambulances, even 'hiding' them for a much needed break. Karen loved telling her stories from interesting calls. She was gifted at calming the frantic and consoling the distraught.
One of Karen's many talents was her gifted skills in sign language. She not only studied ASL in college, but continued to practice throughout her life. This was a special bond she shared with her good ole friend D'Anna Webber, also a gifted interpreter. Her and Karen attended the 'deaf coffee chats' with the hearing impaired to practice her signing skills and socialize.
Perhaps Karen was most known for her love of cats. She always had at least a fluffy, white cat, ever since her Dad Lewis brought home the first "Snowball" for a Christmas gift at 6 years old. Anyone who knew Karen undoubtedly has received pictures and videos of her babies. As was promised to her many years ago, they shall live in comfort without worry.
Karen was a gifted cook and certainly many will miss her lengendary Christmas baking. She drove her goodies to many of her EMS crews all over Texas so they would know her personally. She could replicate many of her favorites from restaurants and make those dishes even better. Karen was proud and happy to feed those she loved and cared about.
Although Karen is so deeply loved and will be so greatly missed, her service will be delayed due to the pandemic. Her wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of life will follow at a safer time for all.
Funeral arrangements for Karen Michelle Corn have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
